GRUPPEN
Manifesto
1. Gruppen is not a band. Gruppen is a field.
A zone of action, sound, and residue. It does not perform songs—it enacts sonic manoeuvres. Formed by Tim Brennan and Dean Brannagan, Gruppen is an aesthetic unit that fuses spoken word, drone, post-punk atmospherics, doom metal pacing, cross-field art and conceptual fieldwork into sound-structures and audio-visual manifestations.
2.The voice is not lyric. It is trace.
It moves through language without claiming poem or song. It carries cadence, but refuses closure.
The voice in Gruppen is not poetic—it is poietic: it makes.

To speak is to locate. To utter is to trace.
3. Sound is structure.
Gruppen works with heaviness not as volume, but as mass—as temporal drag, as atmospheric weight. Guitars are tuned to terrain. Feedback is a form of feedback. Repetition becomes erosion.
Noise is not chaos, but the architecture of the unspeakable.
Sounding without centre.
4. Performance is not event. It is residue.
Every sound is a site. Every utterance, a footprint. The recordings, the performances, the digital artefacts—all are part of a distributed action, unfolding across formats and fields. These are not archived—they recur.
Gruppen is not performance or publication—it is transmission.
5. Each work is a Ritual Digital Artefact (RDA).
These longform releases are not just albums. They are performed documents—part score, part séance, part cartographic scream. Released via Bandcamp and Editions Store, these RDAs extend a practice of Topogrammatics, distributed ritual and field-residue.
6. Influence is acknowledged and undone.
Gruppen operates in the wake of Swans, Bohren & der Club of Gore, Dead Can Dance, Earth, Coil, and ritual post-industrial actions—but resists being captured by genre.
This is not post-rock. This is post-terrain.
7. Collaboration is methodology.
Gruppen is the sound of two voices, two hands, two directional pulls. Dean Brannagan’s sonic architecture meets Brennan’s ritual text in tension and alignment.
Dissonance is a form of research.
Gruppen is a hauntological unit. A field intervention. A fractured broadcast. A ritual inscription in noise.
It does not aim to entertain. It aims to hold space.
It does not finish. It resonates.
