Introduction

Institutional practice concerns search through institutions. It explores museums, galleries, archives, universities, heritage organisations and public space as cultural grammars through which memory, authority and value are produced and negotiated. Some works interrogate the idea of the institution through extended artistic projects that mimic, reconstruct or reimagine collections, exhibitions and systems of knowledge. Others emerge through sustained work within institutions themselves, using leadership, pedagogy and organisational practice to create new cultural and intellectual conditions.
